Gemstone Guide: Sacred Stones, Planets + Nakshatras
Earth-born beauty. Celestial inspiration. An intention you can carry.
Every stone in a Sarvani design brings its own color, character, and story. This guide explores the spiritual symbolism behind the gemstones, crystals, and organic materials woven into my jewelry, from the nine planetary gems to stones chosen for love, courage, creativity, and reflection.
What we mean by healing properties
Here, healing properties refers to traditional spiritual associations and intentions, not proven medical effects. A stone can be a meaningful reminder to pause, return to yourself, or honor a new chapter. Gemstones are not treatments for physical or mental health conditions and do not replace professional care.
The nine planets + their gemstones
In Jyotisha, the nine grahas include the Sun, Moon, five visible planets, and the lunar nodes Rahu and Ketu. Classical Navaratna gemstones and the alternative stones used in Sarvani designs are distinguished below. Alternatives express a design's planetary intention; they are not necessarily interchangeable with classical gems in every astrological tradition.
Sun · Surya
Intention: confidence, vitality, purpose, and the courage to shine. Classical gemstone: Ruby. Sarvani also works with Garnet, Sunstone, and Pyrite for solar symbolism.
Moon · Chandra
Intention: nourishment, intuition, softness, and emotional reflection. Classical gemstone: Pearl. Moonstone, including rainbow and peach varieties, appears in Sarvani's lunar designs.
Mars · Mangala
Intention: courage, action, resilience, and creative fire. Classical gemstone: Red Coral. Carnelian and Red Jasper are additional Mars-inspired stones in Sarvani designs.
Mercury · Budha
Intention: communication, curiosity, discernment, and learning. Classical gemstone: Emerald. Sarvani also uses Peridot, Green Onyx, Green Aventurine, Chrome Diopside, Jade, and Malachite in Mercury-inspired work.
Jupiter · Guru
Intention: wisdom, generosity, growth, and abundance. Classical gemstone: Yellow Sapphire. Citrine and Amber express Jupiter-inspired intentions in Sarvani designs.
Venus · Shukra
Intention: beauty, love, pleasure, creativity, and connection. Classical gemstone: Diamond. Clear Quartz, Herkimer Diamond, and Rose Quartz appear in Sarvani's Venus-inspired work. Herkimer Diamond is quartz, not diamond.
Saturn · Shani
Intention: patience, discipline, honesty, grounding, and devotion. Classical gemstone: Blue Sapphire. Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli, Black Onyx, and Turquoise appear in Sarvani's Saturn-inspired designs.
Rahu · North Lunar Node
Intention: exploration, unconventional paths, ambition, and looking beyond appearances. Classical gemstone: Hessonite Garnet. Some Sarvani designs also explore these themes with Grossular Garnet, Lepidolite, and Hematite. These are distinct materials, not identical gemstones.
Ketu · South Lunar Node
Intention: intuition, release, inner wisdom, and spiritual inquiry. Classical gemstone: Cat's Eye Chrysoberyl. Tiger's Eye and Agate appear in Sarvani's Ketu-inspired designs. Tiger's Eye is not the same stone as Cat's Eye Chrysoberyl.
Gemstones + the 27 nakshatras
Nakshatras are the 27 lunar mansions of Vedic astrology. Each has its own symbolism, deity, and planetary ruler. The connections below follow the Vimshottari planetary-rulership system: they link each nakshatra to its ruler's gemstone family, rather than assigning one exclusive gemstone to each star.
Start with the planetary section above to explore the associated stones. A shared ruler is a symbolic connection, not a personal gemstone prescription.
- Ketu: Ashwini, Magha, Mula.
- Venus: Bharani, Purva Phalguni, Purva Ashadha.
- Sun: Krittika, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha.
- Moon: Rohini, Hasta, Shravana.
- Mars: Mrigashira, Chitra, Dhanishtha.
- Rahu: Ardra, Swati, Shatabhisha.
- Jupiter: Punarvasu, Vishakha, Purva Bhadrapada.
- Saturn: Pushya, Anuradha, Uttara Bhadrapada.
- Mercury: Ashlesha, Jyeshtha, Revati.
For example, Shatabhisha connects to Rahu through its planetary ruler, making Hessonite a planetary reference. Other stones in a Shatabhisha-inspired design may be chosen for the piece's story, color, or intention rather than a classical nakshatra correspondence.

Other meaningful materials
Meteorite, shell, rudraksha, and other natural materials also appear in Sarvani designs. Their meaning may come from celestial origin, sacred tradition, form, or the story of a particular piece rather than a gemstone's planetary correspondence. Cubic zirconia is a manufactured jewelry material, distinct from natural zircon and diamond.
Choose the intention that speaks to you
Begin with a color you love, a story that resonates, or a quality you want to remember. Let your jewelry be a small daily ritual: a moment to return to your intention and carry it into the world.
For a personal astrological gemstone selection, the whole birth chart matters. A nakshatra ruler, Moon sign, or favorite color alone is not a complete prescription.
